Environment & Energy

In this two-part interview on The Real News Network, Johanna Bozuwa, co-manager of the Next System Project’s climate and energy program, explains why replacing the investor-owned fossil fuel industry with democratically owned energy utilities is essential to addressing the climate crisis.

Part I: A partial blackout in New York City in 2019 sparks a discussion of the need for publicly owned electric utilities more responsive to communities to replace profit-driven fossil-fuel corporations.

Part II: Given the urgency of the need to address the climate crisis, a public buyout the fossil fuel industry is the fastest way for the U.S. to lower greenhouse gas emissions and create a just transition.
