President Trump proposed saving the coal sector through a Cold War-era mandate that would require power plans to buy more of the polluting fossil fuel. But nationalization efforts like this one should be used to shut down, not prop up, a failing fossil-fuel energy system.
What we need to implement is a real democratic plan that does not focus on extending the lifetime of a dying industry but instead makes the way for a system based on renewable energy that creates pathways for clean, good-paying jobs.
