ReThink Health awakens change-makers to what is possible. They spur big-picture thinking that allows leaders to step outside their own frames of reference. Doing so lets the change-makers better see how the various parts of the system interact in unexpected ways and determine how and where they can exert influence. They do this by deeply understanding the challenges their clients face and by listening to diverse voices, and working together to harness the information, insights, and actions needed to overcome entrenched beliefs and disrupt the status quo.
The models and tools of ReThink Health catalyze systems thinking, foster more effective and broad-based stewardship teams, develop strategies for change, and offer diverse financing approaches so that change is sustainable over time.
ReThink Health is grounded in the thinking of the Rippel Foundation’s first President, Julius A. Rippel, who raised concerns about our unsustainable healthcare system and the need for new ways of thinking and acting to keep people healthy and health care affordable. Building on this deep legacy, in 2007, the Rippel Foundation sought to understand what barriers stand in the way of creating an optimal health system—one that bridges health and care in ways that improve people’s health; assure access to quality care; and enhance equity, productivity, and community vitality—and how it might foster the conditions that will lead to and sustain change.
ReThink Health see that the issue is not scarcity of dollars, but lack of an aligned vision, a system-wide strategy, and a long-term plan. By thinking differently and working together to use our medical care and community assets more wisely and with an eye toward the future, we can make this vision a reality.
